Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is one of the most popular analytics systems in the world because its free version is available to everyone. GA4 allows you to track your website traffic and visitor behaviour. GA4’s data model has been modernised and users have the option to export GA4 data for free to Google’s own BigQuery data warehouse. This data warehouse connection is a great opportunity to take data collection, editing, aggregation and analysis to a new level.
Piwik Pro
Piwik Pro is a European analytics tool that provides information about website visitors and their behaviour. For example, Piwik Pro can be used to track visitor paths on a website and optimise conversion processes. Piwik Pro offers more privacy features than Google Analytics 4 and the ability to build your tracking entirely on your own servers. Piwik Pro is ideal for pinpointing e-commerce bottlenecks and traffic sources for advertising campaigns.
SnowPlow Analytics
SnowPlow Analytics is an open-source analytics platform that provides real-time data on visitors to your website. It is designed to provide in-depth analytics, and is a viable alternative to popular analytics tools. SnowPlow’s strengths include the customizability of the tool to meet your needs, for example by using your own data models. Its open source nature allows for a wide range of customisation and integration with other systems. On the other hand, SnowPlow’s weakness is the lack of a graphical reporting interface.
Google Big Query
BigQuery is Google’s cloud-based data warehouse designed specifically for analysing large amounts of data. What makes it particularly useful is that Google Analytics 4 data can be directly imported into BigQuery for free. It allows you to combine sales and visitor tracking data to understand which marketing channels are generating the most sales. You can also build very fast and rich reporting by importing data directly from BigQuery into your Looker Studio dashboard.
Snowflake
Snowflake is a cloud-based data warehouse service that works across multiple platforms. It can be deployed on Amazon RedShift, Azure Synapse or Google’s BigQuery. Snowflake also differs from BigQuery in its architecture: BigQuery is a highly scalable serverless solution where payments scale according to usage. Snowflake defines a virtual server that meets your needs and charges for its use according to the size of the resource. Snowflake cannot handle Google Analytics 4 raw data as such, but requires flattening of tables before they can be transferred to Snowflake from BigQuery.
Server side solutions and PII data removal
Server side Google Tag Manager (GTM) allows you to manage your tags on the server side, which can improve your site’s loading speed and security. Of particular importance is its ability to help remove personally identifiable information (PII) before it is sent to third parties. The server-side solution helps companies comply with data protection legislation and reduce the risks associated with data leaks. Our customers have used server side GTM to speed up page load times and ensure that their customers’ privacy is maintained.
